Show Preview: Real Friends at Aftershock
Coming up on the one-year anniversary of release of their latest album The Home Inside My Head, Illinois-based pop punk group Real Friends are one of the few groups at the front of the current pop punk scene that has been steadily climbing in popularity over the past few years. Combining catchy pop-infused emo and melodic hardcore with hashtag relatable lyrics, Real Friends do the sappy-yet-powerful alternative music style just about as good as anyone else on the planet.
The band provided direct support to pop punk wunderkinds The Wonder Years a few days before Halloween last year at the Granada and at times the raucous sell-out crowd drowned out the band with their own singing. Alongside headlining the Granada and the Jackpot, alongside support sets at Warped Tour and other bands in and around KC, Real Friends is no stranger to the area. I wonder what their favorite KC BBQ joint is?
They’re currently headlining a tour with Have Mercy and Tiny Moving Parts – which should be more than enough to get you in the doors early – and with Broadside and nothing, nowhere. opening the evening! It’s a stacked bill from top to bottom. Will you be there and experience a cathartic release of emotions with a couple hundred of your new best friends? Count me in, friends. See you at the Aftershock in Merriam, KS (just outside of KC!) on Wednesday evening!
Real Friends with Have Mercy, Tiny Moving Parts, Broadside and nothing, nowhere. will be at the Aftershock in Merriam, KS (just outside of KC) on Wednesday, May 3rd at 6 PM. Tickets here – see you in the pit, fool.
