Live Tonight: Week of September 22nd – September 28th: Concert Season Begins

Now that fall has officially started, it’s time to ramp up the tours and concerts all around KC! Hopefully you’ll notice many more shows coming to tons of venues in the coming months – gotta squeeze in as many as we can before the snow hits! Remember – no one deserves your hard earned cash more than local venues and local shows!

Monday, September 22nd

Rise Against with Touche Amore, Radkey at Uptown Theater 6:30 PM $35

Each of the acts on this lineup go together perfectly with one another when you really think about it – Rise Against’s harsh-yet-melodic punk anthems, Touche Amore’s screaming post-hardcore tangents and Radkey’s danceable Misfits-esque grooves. It all makes for the perfect atmosphere of crowd surfing, sing-along’s and lots of dancing!

Sebadoh at Record Bar 10 PM $15

Sir Sly with Wolf Gang, Secret Someones at Riot Room 7:30 PM $12

Tuesday, September 23rd

Crowbar with Revocation, Havok, Fit For An Autopsy, Armed For Apocalypse at Aftershock 6 PM $18

In terms of what’s popular today with the Pitchfork metal crowd, Crowbar should be considered extremely influential. One of the first “sludge metal” bands in existence, it’s not a huge stretch to say without Crowbar, we wouldn’t have Down, Mastodon, and half of Southern Lord’s artist roster. Undeniably heavy. Look out for amazing technical death/thrash/grind freaks Revocation and Colorado’s awesome Havok to open!

Cerebral Ballzy with Black on Black, Smash the State at Czar Bar 7:30 PM $10

The Menzingers with Slothrust, Tiny Moving Parts at Record Bar 9 PM $14

The Rebel with Spray Paint, All Blood, Folkicide at miniBar 10 PM $5

Living Colour at Knuckleheads 8:30 PM $30

Pretty Lights Music feat. Michal Menert, Supervision, Paul Basic, Eliot Lipp at Granada 9 PM $22

Wednesday, September 24th

Arsis with Allegaeon, Exmortus, Whoracle at Riot Room 8 PM $10

Arsis has had a rough career. Whether it’s struggling to keep a stable lineup or mainman James Malone’s health issues preventing his ability to tour – it hasn’t been easy for Arsis. However, they’ve persevered and are now on tour playing their first album, “A Celebration Of Guilt” in its entirety. And what an album it is – “A Celebration Of Guilt” has been regarded as one of the best modern melodic death metal albums ever released. On a personal note – it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. I can’t believe I get to see it in its entirety! Be at this show or you’re missing out!

Larry and his Flask with Blue Boot Healers, Slow Motion Commotion at Riot Room 8 PM $8

The Head And The Heart with Glass Animals, The Belle Brigade at The Midland 8 PM $30

Moon Taxi with Tumbleweed Wanderers at Bottleneck 9 PM $13

Colony House with Knox Hamilton at Record Bar 10 PM $12

Thursday, September 25th

Goatwhore with Bleed The Victim at Riot Room 11 PM $10

Another appearance from the always fantastic Goatwhore will bring you into the weekend with a sore neck. The New Orleans band just released their sixth album, “Constricting Rage of the Merciless,” and it’s one of their best albums in years. Injecting speed metal and good old fashioned rock n’ roll into their already chaotic blackened death metal approach makes for some of the catchiest and heaviest metal of the year. This is your chance to see one of the best live metal bands touring right now!

Whirr with Sad Armour, Clear Views at Jackpot 9 PM $10

Blackberry Smoke with Statesboro Revue at Granada 9 PM $20

Friday, September 26th

Black Cobra with Lo-Pan, Gnarly Davidson at Replay Lounge 10 PM $3

A candidate for heaviest show of the year, slude metal titans Black Cobra bring equally heavy Lo-Pan with them to the Replay in Lawrence to wreck your eardrums. Black Cobra channels their inner High On Fire and are probably the heaviest two-piece band of all time. Lo-Pan should give the crowd their fix of Kyuss worship that everyone so desperately needs. Don’t pass this one up

Dr. John & The Nite Trippers with Honey Island Swamp Band, Blue Orleans at Crossroads 8 PM $30

The Piano Guys at The Midland 8 PM $25

I Heart Local Music Fundraiser feat. Psychic Heat with Josh Berwanger Band, Scruffy & The Janitors at Jackpot 10 PM $10

Saturday, September 27th

Lykke Li with Mapei at Uptown Theater 8 PM $35

If you’ve been paying attention, you already know and love Lykke Li. Infectious dream pop that would please fans of anyone from Lana del Ray and FKA Twigs to Radiohead and Lorde. See her at the Uptown in support of her massively well-received album “I Never Learn”!

Trampled By Turtles at Crossroads 8 PM $21.50

Truckstop Honeymoon with American Revival at Bottleneck 9 PM

The Ataris Acoustic Set with Dead Ven, Brent Windler at Czar Bar 8 PM $10

Sunday, September 28th

Fly Moon Royalty with Run With It, Sage N Sour at Riot Room 8:30 PM $8

Wakey Wakey with Ben Fields at Bottleneck 9 PM $11
