Soulfly with Lody Kong, Klehma, Sharp Weapons, Lantern Hill Nightmare at Riot Room 7 PM $15
Max Cavalera is a legendary name in the heavy metal community for as many negative reasons as he is positive. There’s no denying his role in helping form thrash and death metal with Sepultura in the 80s just like there’s no denying how he helped popularize nu-metal and groove metal with his later projects – one of them being Soulfly. Recently, Soulfly has strayed back away from the nu-metal stylings most people cringe at and have found a return to form to old-fashioned death metal. Catch them at the Riot Room on Monday to kick off your week, and hopefully Max will play a few Sepultura tunes!

OK Go with DJ Stevie Cruz at Riot Room 8 PM $17
Sure, everyone knows OK Go as “those guys that made that viral video before YouTube was even a thing,” but they’ve continued to make infectious power pop and put on energetic and memorable performances. Every so often, their original and unique music videos land them on Reddit, but it’s always backed up by catchy music! There’s a reason they’re still around – find out why at the Riot Room on Tuesday.

What’s to be said about Ziggy Marley that hasn’t been said already? Not only did he find his way out of his father’s (enormous) shadow with the Melody Makers and a healthy solo career, he’s been a mainstay in popular music for almost 4 full decades. If you like good times and reggae, you owe it to yourself to be at Crossroads on Wednesday. One love!

Maylene & The Sons of Disaster with He Is Legend, Wilson, Indira at Riot Room 8 PM $15
If you’re like me and you grew up in the midst of the early 00′s post-hardcore/metalcore explosion, there’s no doubt you heard of the top two bands here. Since we’re in the Bible Belt, Christian metalcore was huge at that time, and Maylene and He Is Legend were two of the bigger names in that scene. However – both bands have changed significantly. Maylene and the Sons of Disaster is now almost completely southern rock/heavy metal and He Is Legend has taken a more stoner rock to everything – a far cry from what I grew up with! Watch them tear the Riot Room down on Thursday.

Whores with American Sharks, Canyons, Hyborian at Riot Room 9 PM $10
Seemingly popping up overnight, Whores is a three-piece sludge/noise/alternative rock/metal band that should bang the heads of fans of The Melvins, Helmet, Fight Amp, Kowloon Walled City, Swans, and everything in between! Take a listen for yourself, but don’t miss this show – I’ll be there!

Lux with The Pale Blue Dots, The Invisible World at Czar Bar 6:30 PM $7

Great White with Slaughter at VooDoo Lounge 8 PM $28
It’s time to get your glam on! If you’re looking to relive one of hard rock’s darkest period, there isn’t a better time or place! I kid, of course – but Great White and Slaughter were two of glam rock’s cornerstones! Get your lighters out and your hairspray in the air! (Just be sure not to cause any fires.)
